Patrick Mitchell / Modus Operandi Design/US
Patrick Mitchell is founder and creative director of Modus Operandi Design/US, a firm specializing in editorial branding and design. In 2013, he, along with partners George Gendron and Michael Hopkins, launched The Solo Project, a new platform designed for the burgeoning population of indie- and small-team workers.
Mitchell was the founding creative director at Fast Company, where he was a 2-time winner of the National Magazine Award (and 4-time finalist), as well as winner of the Society of Publication Designers Magazine of the Year award (and a 4-time finalist). He is a former creative director of Hearst’s O: The Oprah Magazine, Boston Magazine,and Nylon, where he was again named a finalist for the National Magazine Award for design.
Mitchell was named Launch Creative Director of the Year byMedia Industry News for his work on Success Magazine, and while atFast Company was named to the Folio: 40, which recognizes “the magazine industry’s most influential leaders and innovators.” His work has been recognized by the AIGA, The Art Directors’ Club of New York, Graphis, Communication Arts, Folio, and Print Magazine.
His clients include: Atlantic Media, Bell Canada, Boston University, Condé Nast, Deloitte, DirecTV, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Harvard University, Levi Strauss, Mansueto Ventures, Monitor Institute, The National Geographic Society, The Rockefeller Foundation, and TED Conferences. Mitchell is a native of Dallas and studied graphic design and journalism at Ole Miss. He currently resides on Cape Ann, just north of Boston, with his wife and sons.
