Doug Powell – Designer, Entrepreneur, Strategist
| Doug Powell is a designer, entrepreneur, and business strategist. Together with his wife Lisa Powell, Doug founded Schwartz Powell Design, a Minneapolis-based graphic design firm building successful relationships with a wide range of clients from Target to Andersen Windows, and from Hazelden to Carleton College.In 2004, following their daughter Maya’s diagnosis with Type 1 diabetes, the couple launched Type1Tools to bring well-designed, kid-friendly tools to the daily experience of managing this complex disease. The success of Type1Tools lead to the expansion of the business into HealthSimple® with a vision to help the millions of
people living with chronic health problems better manage their conditions and
live healthier lives. HealthSimple was acquired by McNeil Nutritionals, a division of Johnson & Johnson, in 2007. Doug has served as consulting creative director for HealthSimple, working in close collaboration with the Johnson & Johnson Global Design team.
Doug and Lisa have transformed Schwartz Powell into a consultancy bringing design thinking and strategy to a variety of organizations with a focus on health and nutrition. Doug is a past member of the national board of directors of AIGA, the professional association for design, and a past chapter president of AIGA Minnesota, one of the organization’s largest and most active chapters. He serves on the board of trustees of College of Visual Arts in St. Paul. Doug Powell curates an ongoing discussion about design and entrepreneurship on the blog, Merge. |
